Mikrotik devices now working on WxC IPv6

FYI for anyone interested, Mikrotik have now completed DHCPv6-PD support and I have confirmed it works great with WxC IPv6 setup. You will require v5.10 or greater of RouterOS to get this working (5.9 has the feature but also a bug that stops it from working). I have an RB750G + Draytek DV120 combo. Happy to post a config if anyone is interested.

Posted to: Mikrotik devices now working on WxC IPv6 Show Thread | Post Reply

Draytek vigor 120 + monowall (working)

Just thought I'd post that I have a Draytek vigor 120 connected to a monowall box and xnet ipv6 is working fine. In case anyone else is trying to get it working.

The things you need to know to get it going are;

* Flash the Vigor 120 to the latest firmware V3.2.4.4 (mine came with V3.2.4.1 but said V3.2.4.4 on the box, crazy)
Make sure you get the correct firmware for your unit, there are lots of different firmware types for the vigor 120.
The "Vigor 120 V2" is totally different, so don't flash that firmware.
There are also different firmware for different Annex versions and modem codes.
If you connect to the vigor 120 webgui and have a look what firmware is currently installed it will have the modem code, something like "332201"

The firmware i flashed was from draytek.com and called "Vigor120+v3.2.4.4+annex+A_2_332201.zip"
but make sure you have the right firmware first, your device code may not be 332201 !

There are two firmware files in the zip, .rst and .all
The difference is the .rst file also includes default config settings so will reset the config.
If you flash the .rst you have to then change back to NZ ADSL settings such as PVI, PCI, encapsulation and protocol etc. because they will reset to some weird values.

* Put the draytek into its special PPPoA->PPPoE bridge mode by simply ticking the box for "PPPoE pass-through"
(You don't enter the adsl username/password here as you're passing the PPP session to monowall)

* In Monowall v1.33 (assuming you have ipv4 working fine already) enable ipv6 in the advanced tab, then;

- Set the WAN type to PPPoE and the WAN ipv6 mode to PPP and enter your isp username/password for PPPoE.
- Set the LAN IPV6 mode to DHCP-PD, IPv6 Prefix delegation to 1/56 (not sure what that does but 1/56 worked for me)
- Tick Send ipv6 router advertisements
- Add some firewall rules for ipv6. (* * * * * will work to test but your lan pc's will all be public accessible on ipv6)

And that should be all, you should now get ipv6 addresses assigned to your lan PC's and pass the tests at test-ipv6.com
(windows boxes seem to need a restart after you get ipv6 working, they pickup the address but it doesn't seem to work until you reboot)

You can also disable the teredo tunnel ipv6 stuff on any win7 boxes, since you don't want that getting in the way.
netsh interface teredo set state disabled
netsh interface ipv6 6to4 set state state=disabled
netsh interface ipv6 isatap set state state=disabled

Posted to: Draytek vigor 120 + monowall (working) Show Thread | Post Reply

Firewall Scenario

Hey Guys,

Could use a bit of help with the scenario im trying to test out. Basically I have a Cisco 837 router which acts as the gateway/modem to wxnz. Everything works great, IPv6 address is received and is route-able to the internet. I also have a firewall behind that router where I would like to do all my processing, the issue is I cannot route out from my LAN out to the Internet. Packets seem to stop at the cisco router.

All v6 traffic from the LAN goes out via the WAN interface up to the cisco router, the cisco router has a static route which directs traffic back to the LAN via the WAN interface.

The cisco router has a static route of ::/0 via Dialer1

Question is do I need a static subnet assigned to achieve what I am trying to do, or am I just missing a route somewhere?

Posted to: Firewall Scenario Show Thread | Post Reply

Dynalink RTA1320V6

Anyone had any experience with the Dynalink RTA1320V6. I can see that it does IPv6 is some nature, but has it implemented DHCPv6 and IP6CP?

Would be keen to get one and go on the trial if it does.

Posted to: Dynalink RTA1320V6 Show Thread | Post Reply

Is DHCPv6 required? And other interesting questions!

Ok, so the Cisco route seems pretty like a pretty safe bet here so instead I'm experimenting with getting a Mikrotik RB750G Router + Draytek ADSL modem working. The Mikrotek seems to get through IPV6CP (using PPPoE through the Draytek) and populate a default route for IPv6, and send it's interface details however I can't get any IPv6 traffic to pass through it. So there are a few issues likely here (including my not complete lack but limited knowledge of IPV6CP).

Can someone confirm if the below looks sane on the IPv6 side of things, I'm also assuming (perhaps incorrectly) that since the prefix delegation is done statically now that I'm not required to run a DHCPv6 client on my side, this is somewhat of a problem if I do have to run it, as Mikrotik don't support that yet! I'm also happy to provide working configs once I get one.I'll also be following up with the vendor, as I'd really like to get this setup working.

21:08:53 system,info device changed by admin
21:08:53 pppoe,debug,packet WAN: sent PADI to FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF
21:08:53 pppoe,debug,packet     session-id=0x0000
21:08:53 pppoe,debug,packet     host-uniq=0x0
21:08:53 pppoe,debug,packet     service-name=
21:08:53 pppoe,debug,packet WAN: rcvd PADO from 00:50:7F:38:8B:43
21:08:53 pppoe,debug,packet     session-id=0x0000
21:08:53 pppoe,debug,packet     service-name=
21:08:53 pppoe,debug,packet     ac-name=Vigor2000 PPPoE
21:08:53 pppoe,debug,packet     host-uniq=0x0
21:08:53 pppoe,debug,packet     ac-cookie=41 43 20 43 6f 6f 6b 69 65 20 66 6f 72 20 54 65 73 74 69 6e 67
21:08:53 pppoe,debug,packet WAN: sent PADR to 00:50:7F:38:8B:43
21:08:53 pppoe,debug,packet     session-id=0x0000
21:08:53 pppoe,debug,packet     host-uniq=0x1
21:08:53 pppoe,debug,packet     service-name=
21:08:53 pppoe,debug,packet     ac-cookie=41 43 20 43 6f 6f 6b 69 65 20 66 6f 72 20 54 65 73 74 69 6e 67
21:08:53 pppoe,debug,packet WAN: rcvd PADS from 00:50:7F:38:8B:43
21:08:53 pppoe,debug,packet     session-id=0x0006
21:08:53 pppoe,debug,packet     host-uniq=0x1
21:08:53 pppoe,debug,packet     service-name=
21:08:53 pppoe,debug,packet     ac-cookie=41 43 20 43 6f 6f 6b 69 65 20 66 6f 72 20 54 65 73 74 69 6e 67
21:08:53 pppoe,ppp,debug wxc: LCP lowerup
21:08:53 pppoe,ppp,debug wxc: LCP open
21:08:53 pppoe,ppp,debug,packet  wxc: sent LCP ConfReq id=0x45
21:08:53 pppoe,ppp,debug,packet    <mru 1480>

Hi, my dhcpv6 isn't getting v6 prefix from WXNZ - is it just me or is there something broken in WorldxChange?

Hi,

Just to confirm this card is now working with native IPV6 here in the UK. The problem turned out to be an routing issue which was fixed by the ISP in 5 minutes over IRC. (UK users: I can recommend Andrews & Arnold, www.aisp.net as a geek-friendly ADSL ISP supporting native IPV6.)

In fact, I suspect the card is running PPPoA (as this is normal for UK BT 20CN ADSL) but I can't be entirely certain it isn't running PPPoE, as BT might support that as well for all I know.

Best regards,

- Martin

Posted to: Anyone have experience with using the Viking ADSL2 PCI card? Show Thread | Post Reply

Interesting. However WXNZ is using PPPoA instead of PPPoE which makes bridging impossible as far as I know.

Would be nice if WXNZ supported PPPoE too - the IPv6 early adopters running Linux could then get away with a cheap ADSL modem configured for bridging.

Posted to: Anyone have experience with using the Viking ADSL2 PCI card? Show Thread | Post Reply

This is an old thread, but just for correctness, you *can* run PPP over ADSL with this card. You just need to configure it as a bridge, not a router.

Telnetting to the thing, you log in as admin with password admin. The following will work from the default shipped configuration:-

telnet 192.168.1.1

Escape character is '^]'.

                ,vvvdP9P???^   ,,,
vvd###P^`^         vvvvv v
vv#####?^                  ????####vv,
vv####??     ,vvvdP???^  ,,,        ??##^
v#####?    ,vvd##P?^        #?#v#vvv
v#####?    v###P^    ,vvv,        '?#?,
######?   ####?^ ,vd#P?^     `???##
#####?   v####  ,d##P^           ''
######   v####  ]###L                   _   _          _                  ___
#####?   v####  ]##L                   /   / \  |\ |  |_  \/   /\   |\
######    ####  ]###L                  \_  \_/  | \|  |_  /\  /--\  | \
?#####v   ####v  ]##h,            ,,
?#####    ?###h,  `9#hv,     ,vv###
######    #####L    ]###L        ,v#v'
?#####vv    ?9##hv,        ,,vvvv###'
?#####vv     `??9P\vv,   ^         vv##,
######                       #######L
??###hvv,          ,vvv#?##?????
`????9hdhvv,

Login: admin
Password: *****

Login successful

--> ip delete interface ipwan
--> bridge add interface br0
--> bridge attach br0 ethernet
--> rfc1483 add transport tr1 a1 0 38 llc bridged
--> bridge add interface br1
--> bridge attach br1 tr1
--> system config save

More info here: http://martins-random-notes.blogspot.com/2010/05/traverse-viking-pci-adsl-modem.html

The good news is, this "just works" with Monowall (v1.32) provided that you use the GENERIC image - this is OK, even on embedded hardware.

The bad news is that I haven't got it to pass IPV6, even though Mono 1.32 supports it, as does my ISP. This is probably some stupid config error on my part in Mono, as it seems unlikely that the Viking card would be filtering PPP frames.

- Martin

Posted to: Anyone have experience with using the Viking ADSL2 PCI card? Show Thread | Post Reply

Hi YellowOnion,

I was just giving OpenWRT another try but can't figure out how to set up the ADSL/ppp0 device. "ifup wan" doesn't seem to do anything. Your posted config for "wan" interface refers to "atm0" device - how do I set that up? I've got all the ppp modules loaded but still got no atm0. What else do I need for adsl/ppp0?

Thanks

Posted to: OpenWRT Help available Show Thread | Post Reply

Sorted. For the record a couple of problems that I had to overcome:

1) My setup originally was a direct connection between laptop's ethernet port and the router. However when I powered down the router the OS on my laptop (OpenSUSE Linux 11.1) detected that the link went down and unconfigured the interface. To prevent the interface from going down with every router restart I used a switch between the router and my laptop. The switch keeps the laptop link up, regardless of what's going on on the router's link.

2) The OS obviously needs to know the router's MAC address before sending anything its way, therefore when "ftp 192.168.1.1" is run it first starts sending ARP requests. However the ADAM2's activity window is too short and before the MAC address is resolved ADAM2 often moved on and booted the D-Link firmware. To overcome this I used a static arp entry:

~# arp -s 192.168.1.1 00:1b:11:2f:9a:0d -i eth0

3) And finally, since all the above still wouldn't lead to an adam2 ftp login I realised that by default its IP address is 5.8.8.8 instead of 192.168.1.1. You can check that also from the D-Link firmware - telnet to the router, login as admin/admin or whatever your webUI password is and have a look at /proc/ticfg/env. Look for 'my_ipaddress' or 'IPA' keys.
This address can easily be changed with:

echo "IPA 192.168.1.1" > /proc/ticfg/env

4) My LFTP client by default negotiates a "passive mode". That causes the really very slow upload I described earlier. Disable passive mode and the speed is suddenly ~40kB/s:

$ ftp 192.168.1.1
Connected to 192.168.1.1.
220 ADAM2 FTP Server ready.
Name (192.168.1.1:user): adam2
331 Password required for adam2.
Password: adam2
230 User adam2 successfully logged in.
Remote system type is UNIX.
ftp> binary
200 Type set to I.
ftp> passive off
Passive mode: off; fallback to active mode: off.
ftp> quote MEDIA FLSH
200 Media set to FLSH.
ftp> put openwrt-ar7-squashfs.bin "fs mtd4"
local: /media/disk/OpenWRT-ar7/bin/ar7/openwrt-ar7-squashfs.bin remote: fs mtd4
502 Command not implemented - Try HELP.
200 Port command successful.
120 service ready in 33 seconds.
100% |************ *******************|  2432 KB   41.47 KB/s    00:00 ETA
150 Opening BINARY mode data connection for file transfer.
2490372 bytes sent in 00:58 (41.47 KB/s)
226 Transfer complete.
ftp> ^D

Now powercycle the router, telnet to 192.168.1.1 and off you go.

BTW YellowOnion - how big is your squashfs image?

Posted to: OpenWRT Help available Show Thread | Post Reply

I spent a large part of last night on this and in the end managed to login to ADAM2's ftp and begin the upload. However the progress was *very* slow. It uploaded only ~180kB overnight (8 hrs or so). With tcpdump I could see the ACKs coming back from the router exactly 2 minutes after the respective data packets were sent out. Any idea what's causing this?

Here is my /proc/ticfg/env. Are the values similar to yours?

autoload        1
autoload_timeout        7
BOOTCFG m:f:"mtd1"
bootloaderVersion       1.3.7.15
BUILD_OPS       0x301
cpmac_phy       0
CPUFREQ 211968000
enable_margin_retrain   1
eoc_vendor_id   0x444C696E6B000000
eoc_vendor_revision     20070314
eoc_vendor_serialnum    00:1B:11:3D:8A:3B_00000000000000
FLASHSZ 0x00400000
HWA_0   00:1B:11:3D:8A:3B
HWA_3   01:E0:03:04:05:03
HWA_HRNDIS      00:E0:A9:30:41:E1
HWA_RNDIS       00:E0:A9:30:41:EB
HWRevision      Unknown
invntry_vernum  2007031400000000
IPA     5.8.8.8
MAC_PORT        0
MEMSZ   0x01000000
MIPSFREQ        211968000
MODETTY0        38400,n,8,1,hw
MODETTY1        38400,n,8,1,hw
modulation      0xffff
mtd0    0x900a1000,0x90400000
mtd1    0x90020090,0x900a1000
mtd2    0x90000000,0x90010000
mtd3    0x90010000,0x90020000
mtd4    0x90020000,0x90400000
ProductID       AR7RD
PROMPT  (psbl)
SerialNumber    00:1B:11:3D:8A:3B
StaticBuffer    384
SYSFREQ 105984000
usb_board_mac   00:1B:11:3D:8A:3C
usb_man D-Link
usb_pid 0x5b00
usb_prod        DSL-502T
usb_rndis_mac   00:1B:11:3D:8A:3D
usb_serial      00:1B:11:3D:8A:3C
usb_vid 0x2001
vcc_encaps0     0.0
vcc_encaps1     0.0
vcc_encaps2     0.0
vcc_encaps3     0.0
vcc_encaps4     0.0
vcc_encaps5     0.0
vcc_encaps6     0.0
vcc_encaps7     0.0

Posted to: OpenWRT Help available Show Thread | Post Reply

The Wiki instructions are a little inconsistent...

First they seem to talk about mtd4 partition...

Openwrt firmware changes
mtd   start                 end
4       0x90020000      0x903e0000

but a while later do changes to mtd1:

SETENV mtd1,0x90020000,0x903e0000

Which one did you modify? mtd1 as suggested in the command output?

BTW We should take this offline I guess.

Well i first tried the pre built image, I got it working but with no much flash space left, so I build a image with out the Wireless driver that seems to be included by default plus no webUI and all the IPv6 packages I needed, this way all the software is stored in the squashfs partition so there was more space

I've spotted a bug >> https://dev.openwrt.org/ticket/7548

I haven't been able to test it for long because I had to move and now waiting on the land lord to close there internet down so I can move mine over

the image you want is the openwrt-ar7-squashfs.bin, most of it's documented, note that you can't use the web interface uploader to do it, you have to use TFTP

Posted to: OpenWRT Help available Show Thread | Post Reply

Sorry about the newbe question but I've been using the wet day to puzzle over the sample config for my shiny new 877 router (when I get it) and I just don't see how this will work.

Q. Once I have the IPv6 trial connection going how will my IPv6 client connect to IPv4 servers? (it will won't it?)

Thanks.....

Posted to: Accessing the IPv4 Internet Show Thread | Post Reply

Hi Guys,

Is your source code available for the subnet calculator? I'd like to build on this to create a wee app that is able to store the subnets and generated dns zone files etc.

Alternatively - if you know of something like this already, pipe up!

Cheers,
Russ.

Posted to: Subnet Calculator Show Thread | Post Reply

PPPoE bridge?

Hi,

I've got a Linux box that is connected to an ADSL router over ethernet. When the router is configured to do PPPoA it works fine, but only in IPv4.

When I change the router setup to "bridge mode" I thought I could then use PPPoE client on Linux to do the PPP side of things. However so far I wasn't successful.

I wonder if it is possible at all to configure it that way. The router authenticates to Xnet only in PPPoA mode, not in PPPoE so perhaps the bridging mode passes through PPPoA frames? Can I somehow authenticate to Xnet in PPPoE? Or is there anything else I could do to let Linux do the PPP stuff with IPv6 support?

Thanks

Michal

Posted to: PPPoE bridge? Show Thread | Post Reply

Hi,

is it yet possible to delegate reverse zone of my prefix to my nameservers?

I've solved the problem now. If you ask for an IP address (option "ia" in Dibbler), you get no reply, since the DHCPv6 server is only working in prefix delegation mode.

If, however, you set up the client to only ask for a prefix, it will answer

My Dibbler client config now looks like:

iface ppp0 {
pd
option dns-server
}

And works just fine:

2009.11.12 16:59:41 Client Debug     Parsing /etc/dibbler/client.conf done, result=0
2009.11.12 16:59:41 Client Debug     1 interface(s) specified in /etc/dibbler/client.conf
2009.11.12 16:59:41 Client Info Interface ppp0/4 configuation has been loaded.
2009.11.12 16:59:41 Client Info My DUID is 00:01:00:01:12:86:4e:d0:00:40:63:c5:8f:5c.
2009.11.12 16:59:41 Client Debug Bind reuse enabled (multiple instances allowed).
2009.11.12 16:59:41 Client Notice Creating control (: socket on the lo/1 interface.
2009.11.12 16:59:41 Client Notice Creating socket (addr=fe80::553b:1edd:8965:cdf3) on the ppp0/4 interface.
2009.11.12 16:59:41 Client Info Socket bound to fe80::553b:1edd:8965:cdf3/port=546
2009.11.12 16:59:41 Client Info Creating SOLICIT message with 0 IA(s), no TA and 1 PD(s) on ppp0/4 interface.
2009.11.12 16:59:41 Client Debug     Sleeping for 1 second(s).
2009.11.12 16:59:42 Client Info      Processing msg (SOLICIT,transID=0xb0e327,opts: 1 25 8 6)
2009.11.12 16:59:42 Client Debug Sending SOLICIT on ppp0/4 to multicast.
2009.11.12 16:59:42 Client Debug     Sleeping for 1 second(s).
2009.11.12 16:59:42 Client Debug     Received 186 bytes on interface ppp0/4 (socket=7, addr=fe80::90:1a00:c142:bf14.).
2009.11.12 16:59:42 Client Warning Option 20 in message 2 is not supported.
2009.11.12 16:59:42 Client Warning Option 20 is invalid.

Hi There,

I have checked the config for your username - and all looks good. However i dont even see a link-local address from you - so it looks like the IPv6CP process is not working.

Cheers,

Callum

Posted to: Unable to get a DHCPv6 lease on Linux Show Thread | Post Reply

After further investigation, I seem to have the same problem as in http://wxnz.net/ipv6-capable-xdsl-devices/show/9#post9

If I set up Dibbler so it doesn't ask for an address, just DNS/domain details, then it gets a reply, but as soon as it asks for an actual address, no reply is forthcoming...

Could it be the same RADIUS config problem with my prefix?

Posted to: Unable to get a DHCPv6 lease on Linux Show Thread | Post Reply

Hi,

So finally I've got some kit sorted that should be able to do this. PCI ADSL + Linux should be fine...

I've got it to the point where pppd can pull up the PPPoATM connection, and negotiate IPv6CP:

Plugin pppoatm.so loaded.
using channel 7
Using interface ppp0
Connect: ppp0 <-->

I've compiled WIDE-DHCPv6 for OpenWRT (kamikaze on a DSL-502T), after giving up on ISC DHCP 4.1.0p (which had trouble generating a DUID on ppp0).

I *guess* the card doesn't expose the ADSL part to the host pc at all and therefore it won't show up as a modem for use with for instance pppd. As I understand it it's pretty much the same as having an external ADSL modem connected to your ethernet port, just in this case it's all on a single board.

You may have some luck with PPPoE or PPPoA. I never tried these though.

Posted to: Anyone have experience with using the Viking ADSL2 PCI card? Show Thread | Post Reply

Anyone have experience with using the Viking ADSL2 PCI card?

Hi,

I'm finally back from holiday and looking to gear up to help out with this trial. My preferred solution would be either something running OpenWRT or DD-WRT, or alternatively running a Linux PC-based solution.

I've discovered this card: http://www.yawarra.com.au/product.php?productCode=XC-P-ADSL2-V which is a Linux-compatible, PPPoATM, ADSL2 PCI card that interfaces as an ethernet card.

First question is will this work? There's no mention that IPv6 might traverse it. It appears to the OS as an RTL8139 ethernet interface (not sure how PPPoA support will work with this?).

Second question is if I can find somewhere that'll ship them here, does anyone else want one too?

Thanks

Posted to: Anyone have experience with using the Viking ADSL2 PCI card? Show Thread | Post Reply
